ND Chandler Co. was founded in 1977 by Duane Chandler and his wife Sandy Chandler. They were some of the early air conditioning pioneers in the Houston, TX region. After many years of dedicated service to their customers they decided to retire in 2006.
In early 2006 ND Chandler Co. was bought by Steven Wiley and his wife Angela. Since 2006 Steven and his wife have dutifully served the Chandler’s customer base and made every effort to maintain the untarnished reputation that Duane and Sandy worked so hard to achieve.
Since 2006 they have grown the customer base by about 200% through a second acquisition (Cloud Air), and through organic growth in the market. All of this during “tough” economical times.
This is a very healthy business full of life. “The phone rings everyday with opportunity, thank God”, Wiley said. The real secrete to this success is the customers themselves. “Not everyone stay’s when a company is purchased. Some customers just need to go try someone else anyway”, Steven says when asked how difficult it was dealing with existing customers when taking over. “The trick is”, he says, “to treat them like you want to be treated. Treat them with honesty, respect, and make sure the things we fix for them stay that way”. That’s hard to beat these days.
With over 20yrs experience in the field, and being 3rd generation, it seems as though it’s working for them. “Nobody likes expensive repairs” Wiley says,”but it’s like changing the oil in your car or truck. If you don’t, you know sooner or later you have to spend alot of money on a new engine. Its our job to get it fixed, we’re part of the solution.”
This straight forward, honest, and hard working approach certainly has an edge in an industry where supposedly “anyone” can fix an air conditioner. Chandler Mechanical is pumping it out, and making it look good while doing it.
